The movie 3 Idiots was the most inspiring movie that I have
ever seen. I first saw that film 5 years ago when we were film viewing. I think
all high schools and universities are making their students watch this film
because almost everyone on my age has seen this movie.
Being a
college student is never easy especially when your course requires sweat and
blood just to pass one subject. But we should not quit no matter what it takes
when it is our only option to have a bright future so this movie is a very good
example to inspire all the students that are going on hard courses in college.
The movie
has three characters namely Rancho, Farhan and Raju and each of them have
different traits and each of them have different skills that may help them
achieve their goals in life. They are three engineering students who share a
room in a hostel at the Imperial College of Engineering, one of the best
colleges in India. While Farhan and Raju are average students from modest
backgrounds, Rancho is from a rich family. Farhan wants to become a wildlife
photographer, but has joined engineering college to fulfill his father's wish.
Raju on the other hand wants to uplift his family fortunes. Rancho is a wealthy
genius who studies for the sheer joy of it. However, Rancho's passion is for
knowledge and taking apart and building machines rather than the conventional
obsession of the other students with exam ranks. All the three of them have
similarities in my personal behavior, status in life and experience. My
similarity with the character of Sharman Joshi which is Raju Rastogi is we came
from a poor family and I also wanted to provide my family a good and wealthy
life. In the character of R. Madhavan which is Farhan Qureshi, my similarity on
his character is we both have hobbies and skills that our parents did not want
us to do because it may distract me from my studies. I love to draw before but
my mom is always scolding at me because she wants me to study my lessons. As a
result, my drawing skills never excelled and I regret it so much. Lastly, my
similarity on the character of Aamir Khan which is Ranccho “Rancho” Shyamaldas
Chanchad or Phunsukh Wangdu is we both have the same personality type. I do not
have the same intelligence like him but at least I am clever, (hehe) I am also
outspoken, alert (yeah sometimes), and stimulating. So I am going to choose
between the three characters, of course I will choose Rancho. Rancho does not
have only the traits that are mentioned before but he was also resourceful in
solving new and challenging problems, Adept at generating conceptual
possibilities and then analyzing them strategically. He is also good at reading
other people and Bored by routine, will seldom do the same thing the same way,
apt to turn to one new interest after another in machines, Focus on the
here-and-now, spontaneous, enjoy each moment that he can be active with others
and Learn best through doing. This can be justified at any stage of the film
because he always chooses to go for innovating new machines and developing an
ideology that is error free.
I really
admired the character of Rancho. He did not formally attended school when he
was a child. He just wear a uniform and slip into classes just because he
wanted to learn and all he had learned from school, he applied it. For example,
during their first night at the university he did used what he had learned from
physics that salt water is good conductor of electricity. I was amazed by that
kind of simple invention he had made so that he will not be bullied by the seniors.
He is a good friend to his friends; he would help them when they are in need.
He inspired their lives and taught them to follow what would make them happy. I
admired him because despite the pressure in college he still can make it to the
top of the class and proved to everyone that grades are not important it will
just make division among others, what’s important is that even though we may
not have high grades but we learned something from it. It would a foundation
for our success in the future, all the things that we learned in this so-called
life. In the movie, he always pushes his friends to bring out what they have
for them to have something to be proud of. This man is indeed a very inspiring
man for me because it made me realized that education is what we really need
for the success of our future and taught me the value of friendship that
friends are our second family. Through ups and downs, true friends will always
be there for you. The saying “Aal Izz Well” is a reminder for us all that
everything will be alright if we will believe in ourselves and has that faith
in each one of us. He is an outstanding student in the Imperial College of
Engineering because he is an eye opener to everyone and I liked what Mr. Virus
told him that he is not right all the time. It simply means that even though
we, people, are that smart, genius, bright in terms of intellectual
capabilities but we do not know everything, we should stay humble at all times.
We tend to make mistakes and we should accept it even though it would hurt our
pride. He is the only student in which Mr. Virus had seen to be one of a kind
that’s why he gave his pen to him because that pen is a symbol of excellence
and for me he really deserve it. It is not that easy to make a machine out of
materials that are available at a certain time. For me Rancho is a hero in that
movie, he is able to save a child’s life by his innovated invention the vacuum
cup out of a vacuum cleaner and helped to deliver Mona’s baby safely. I was
really amazed by what he had done at that time and I’m sure that Mr. Virus is
also amazed and proud of him that’s why he gave his pen to him.
“Pursue
excellence and success will follow” that quote opened my eye and made me
realize that we should not chase success because when we do not have
excellence, it is impossible to achieve success. For me, if we aim for dreams
aim it high because it would be our motivation in life to reach that goal. If
we will be able to excel in our chosen careers or paths that we wanted to take,
our success on it will not be impossible to achieve because if we love what we
are doing, everything will be just in place plus it would be a fulfillment of
our long life dreams. He made realize that grades are just basis on how well I
am able to comprehend the lessons taught in school but it is should not be our
basis for our excellence but on how we are able to apply it in real life and
learn from it because learning should not stop by the time we graduated school
but it is a long way process until the end of our life. But the most
striking quote that I heard from the movie is that “Make your passion, your
profession”, it is the most striking for me because it really applies what we
are going through right now. We cannot accomplish tasks or be successful in a work
if our hearts are not on it because we will never be contented on it and we
tend to look and ask for more. It would be very good if we will be able to
follow what we really want for our lives. And this made me thought of my real
dream is. I always wanted to be a scientist, particularly being an astronaut. I
am always fascinated with anything that is related to astrology, archaeology
and experimenting with technology. I was always curious as a child so that I
read scientific books to answer my questions in life. I also love to play with
electronic devices and create something from them. When I was in elementary
something like grade one or two, every time I see an appliance that was thrown
away in the garbage I will pick it up and open it. I don’t know what am I going
to do with but I just wanted to open it. But that was all lost because I was
discouraged by the behavior of my mom. Like I said before she just wanted to
make me concentrate on the text books that is used in our school. Even our
school makes our learning limited to what they are teaching. They control what
we have to learn as if they know what we need to know in life. If this movie
was shown the time when I experienced those things, I maybe pursuing on my
dreams now. But I know someday I will continue to reach my dreams.
I hope that
all the schools and universities will show this movie to their students to open
their eyes and pursue their dreams.
“Make your passion, your profession”... :D
