Attending seminars is a good learning experience. When we
attend this kind of activity, we are able to learn new ideas and techniques or
even share our learning to other people. Seminars are usually interactive
sessions where the participants engage in discussions about the delineated
topic. A seminar may have several purposes or just one purpose. For instance, a
seminar may be for the purpose of education, such as a lecture, where the
participants engage in the discussion of an academic subject for the aim of gaining
a better insight into the subject. Other forms of educational seminars might be
held to impart some skills or knowledge to the participants. Examples of such
seminars include personal finance, web marketing, real estate, investing or
other types of seminars where the participants gain knowledge or tips about the
topic of discussion. I have been in a lot of seminars and most of it is
seminars on how to protect and preserve our environment. We have been
conducting seminars before too because it is one of our duties as an SK
official. Students like me need seminars so that we could empower our knowledge
on our field and explore on what things that we are missing today. As an
Information Technology student, we have to cope up and be updated on what is ne
win our field so that we will not be outdated and go with the fast pace
development of modern technology.
The seminar
that I am looking forward to is the Y4IT or Philippine Youth Congress on
Information Technology. We will be attending it during our Field Trip and
Seminars in Manila. According to what I have read on the internet, it is the
biggest event for the people in the field of Information Technology and
Computer Science as well. There are many information technology students here
in the Philippines but not all are able to join this activity so it is an
opportunity that I am able to attend this seminar.
What I am
expecting on the Y4IT seminar is there will be a lot of people from the field
of information technology and computer science are coming. College students
from different universities all over the Philippines, professors, technology
experts and even technopreneurs are what I am imagining to see on the upcoming
event. I am also sure that there will be foreign visitors from the countries
that have advanced technology such as Singapore and Japan. It will be also
great if those foreign technology experts will share the latest technology in
their country that is still not available here in the Philippines. Another
thing that I am going to expect there will be a lot of useful things that I
will learn on the said event. The speakers will surely share their experiences
on how they reached what they have now. Their experiences will inspire us
students especially those who have no clear vision on what they will do in the
future like me. To be honest, as I go on to this course I can see that the
bright future will be hard to achieve for me. I am not a good programmer and my
knowledge about the computer is only above average. I can’t see what my special
skills in terms of information technology are and until now I am still
searching for the answer. As of now I hoping that I will excel in graphic
designing. It is my only option for now. I know I am not the only one who is
experiencing this but also the other students of information technology and
computer science. We need inspiration from successful people that is why we
need them to listen and learn from them. We do not know if they were once like
me and just also inspired by the other people so they are what they are now. .
This seminar has a dual purpose, first is the students like me will learn from
the professionals and second, the professionals are free to share their
experiences and to influence the future generation of information technology
professionals. I wish that someday I will attend that seminar again few years
later but not as an attendee but I will be the one of the speakers. But duh, I
am too lazy to for that. It requires hard work, patience and also skills to
attain that level. But who knows? Maybe those speakers have the same way of
thinking like me and they did not also expected that they will be like what
they are now.
Since this
is a national event, there will be a lot of participants from other schools and
I think there will be thousands of them. I am excited about meeting other
people and making friends with them. I am sure that there would be a question
and answer portion every time a speaker finishes talking so I think it would be
fun listening on the questions that the attendees that will ask. My friends who
were able to attend the Y4IT 2013 also shared their experiences to us and it
made me more excited. They said that there are games like telling you ideas on
stage. I was interested on it because I am not only going to express my ideas
but also I will be given a prize. I hope that it is cash or an external drive
or any thing that is useful for an information technology student like me.
Lastly, my
favorite part of the seminar is the announcing of winners for the student paper
competition. I joined the competition because I was so interested in it and it
is funny that I joined without my facilitators consent. I hope that I will win
the contest so that my facilitator will forgive me on what I have done
hehe.
I can’t
wait to join this seminar and I hope that my expectations on this event will
happen. I also hope that the program will be smooth and no problems will be
encountered during the event.
